What is Regions Financial's outlook for loan growth and C&I lending trends in 2026?
Regions reiterates a full-year loan growth expectation of “average loans … up low single digits versus 2025”. 12 This guidance is grounded in observed momentum and lending activity going into 2Q, including the company’s statement that loan pipelines/commitments remain strong and lending activity is at a good pace. 23
On the near-term trend, Regions reported ending loans up 2% (and average loans up ~1%) for the quarter, with growth described as broad-based C&I lending. 2 Management also described that roughly half of the quarter’s growth came from higher line utilization, with most of the rest driven by new loans, approximately 80% to existing clients. 2
Management characterizes the loan-growth engine as broad-based C&I, explicitly including:
Regions also tied growth to utilization and customer behavior:
Regions expects more loan-line activity as 2026 unfolds, stating utilization rates are up about 200 basis points across its corporate and middle-market customer bases and that it would expect “a little more activity as the year goes along” given constructive customer feedback. 1
This matters because a material portion of growth is utilization-led: Regions stated roughly half of the quarter’s loan growth came from higher line utilization. 2
Regions’ C&I growth is occurring largely in higher-quality segments:
Regions also emphasized that NDFI-related lending is not a meaningful growth driver (lines are long-standing, predominantly investment-grade, and exposure is limited), noting NDFI exposure remains less than 2% of total loans and is well enhanced, with existing client paydowns exceeding draws during the quarter. 2 As a result, the 2026 C&I growth narrative appears to be more focused on core relationship lending and utilization than on scaling NDFI. 24
While loan growth is positive, management discussed tighter spreads (particularly in C&I):
So, the C&I trend is “up” in terms of activity and growth, but not necessarily accompanied by consistently widening spreads—Regions appears to be trading some yield/rate spread for higher-quality or higher-utilization mix. 65
For 2026, Regions’ outlook for loan growth is low single-digit growth in average loans versus 2025. 2 The company expects broad-based C&I to remain the primary growth driver, supported by higher line utilization and continued borrowing by middle-market customers, with pipelines/commitments strong enough that new originations should offset corporate paydowns. 23 However, management also indicates that C&I spreads tightened in parts of the portfolio (notably larger C&I / IG C&I) as utilization and credit mix shifted, which can influence earnings quality even as volumes grow. 65

Micron said its overall SCA pricing framework remained broadly similar, while newer negotiations reflected current market pricing and expected future tightness. Around three-quarters of SCA revenue had defined pricing frameworks; the remainder was subject to periodic negotiation or market-linked pricing. Management did not indicate that all existing price floors and ceilings had reset to current levels.

Micron’s stronger demand visibility, including continued server growth and agentic AI, has extended customer allocation discussions into 2028. Meanwhile, HBM’s growing share of production, technology-transition limits, and slow capacity ramp-ups constrain supply. These conditions support strong margins into 2028, but Micron has not forecast that margins will exceed the level expected for 2027.

Best Buy enters August with modest momentum and near-term tailwinds from back-to-school promotions and seasonal demand. Computing demand appears hybrid—driven by replacement and innovation rather than a solely AI-driven cycle, with no material evidence of Apple pull-forward.

Walmart’s management frames payback from price investments and rollbacks around durable customer outcomes and market-share gains, not immediate offsets. They note a lag between price actions and benefits, emphasize tracking unit movement and category effects, and indicate that their goal is for rollbacks to become permanent price increases where feasible, while maintaining rigorous discipline on returns.
