Inter Parfums reported a notable 140 basis point gross margin increase in Q1 driven by mix, direct-to-retail growth, and lower destruction costs. Management anticipates these benefits will normalize over the course of the year, particularly in Q2 and Q3, as the effects of temporary factors diminish.

What factors drove the 140 bps gross margin expansion in Q1, and which are expected to normalize later this year?
Inter Parfums reported that consolidated gross margin expanded 140 basis points to 65.1% from 63.7% in Q1, and management characterized it as coming primarily from mix/portfolio/channel factors plus lower-than-expected “destruction” costs, partially offset by tariffs. 1
Specifically, the transcript attributes the improvement to:
Favorable segment, brand, and channel mix
Lower-than-expected destruction costs (improved efficiencies)
Tariffs partially offset the improvement
Management described the gross margin outcome as a “perfect storm,” explicitly tying expansion to:
Management explicitly expects that the primary “drivers” of the Q1 expansion are not all permanent. They said gross margin was helped by a set of factors that they view as temporary in aggregate and that they expect to normalize “over the balance of the year,” while keeping their full-year gross margin target flat. 2
In particular, they indicated normalization would show up during the second and third quarter, stating:
They did not label each component as purely structural vs. temporary in the excerpts provided, but they clearly singled out the set of Q1 benefits as likely to fade/mitigate over time:
(Note: the excerpts also mention manufacturing optimization shifting production closer to the point of sale, and discuss cost structure and stability expectations, but the question asks specifically what drove the 140 bps expansion in Q1 and what is expected to normalize later—those elements are directly answered in management’s “perfect storm” and “normalize over the balance of the year / Q2-Q3 mitigating” remarks.) 2

Wells Fargo expects fourth-quarter 2026 net interest income of about $13 billion, supported by loan and deposit growth, asset repricing, higher securities balances, and rates. The full-year outlook remains $50 billion, plus or minus. Management did not disclose a numerical Q4 markets/non-markets split; its roughly $1.8 billion markets estimate applies to the full year, not the quarter.

Cintas raised its FY2027 incremental-margin outlook to 32%–34% and expects results in the range’s upper half, while cautioning that quarterly progress will be uneven. Workday comparisons, a demanding Q4 comparison, energy assumptions, and cost controls are key factors shaping the outlook; guidance also excludes UniFirst-related transaction costs and assumes no further acquisitions.

AutoZone outlines a store-maturation-driven ROIC story, highlighting zero ROIC in the first year and a path to above 20% by year six, with ~15% by year four. The majority of near-term ROIC gains come from UDS customers through faster delivery and expanded inventory, while national accounts offer longer-term upside but without separate ROIC targets disclosed.

Management attributes the near-term gross-margin pressure to a rapid ramp in custom products, noting that mix is the primary driver of the Q3 margin decline and that the forecast assumes continued custom growth. They expect the broader Data Center mix—anchored by connectivity and other segments—to stabilize margins in Q4, with margins remaining in the existing range into fiscal 2028 despite ongoing custom expansion.

Walmart explains that price investments are likely to lift traffic in 2H with lagged effects, while ticket dynamics face deflation and regulatory headwinds; OpEx growth of about 7% is mainly driven by depreciation from CapEx and higher self-insurance costs, with timing shifts supporting the back half.

Marmaxx faced execution-related underperformance due to merchandise-mix gaps in stores, particularly for impulse and basic categories, not due to competition. TJX reports cross-functional fixes and systematic planning to prevent recurrence, with early improvements in August and a targeted return to a 2%-3% comp cadence by Q4 as the holiday season nears.

Carvana frames its rest-of-2026 EBITDA guidance as midyear guardrails, reinforcing a disciplined, historical approach rather than signaling a fundamental pivot. Management notes the 53rd week adds roughly 2% to full-year results, while corporate overhead moves in line with segment-driven safety trends, reinforcing a consolidated improvement rather than an outsized corporate swing.

Quanta Services outlines a pathway to higher long-term margins anchored in a greater self-perform mix and larger load-center/generation projects, underpinned by a training-driven expansion of the workforce and a reinforcing backlog buildup. The analysis also flags headwinds such as mix/risk, lumpy project timing, and interconnection bottlenecks that could temper near-term gains even as backlog strengthens.
