What factors contributed to DaVita's 2026 earnings guidance increase, particularly regarding treatment volume and labor efficiencies?
DaVita stated that it raised its 2026 adjusted operating income guidance range by $40 million at the midpoint, and that the largest driver of the increase was higher treatment volume, with a second factor being continued labor efficiencies within patient care costs. 1
Management said it is increasing its full-year volume forecast to a 25 to 50 basis point increase (i.e., treatment growth). 2
They further explained that this increase is expected to translate into 50 to 75 basis points of growth in treatments per normalized day because there is a year-over-year headwind in 2026 vs. 2025. 2
DaVita attributed the volume uplift primarily to two elements:
Better underlying performance (including higher census than expected)
Patient transfers associated with Fresenius clinic closures
DaVita described the expected cadence of Fresenius-related new starts and indicated that, while Q1 would capture only part of the impact, additional new starts would come later in the year:
Bottom line on volume: In management’s framework, higher treatment volume is the largest driver of the 2026 adjusted operating income midpoint increase. 1 The volume uplift is supported by (i) stronger execution on mortality/census vs forecast and (ii) patient transfers from Fresenius closures. 3
DaVita identified the second factor behind the guidance increase as continued labor efficiencies within patient care costs. 1
Management said patient care cost per treatment were about flat to the fourth quarter, primarily due to a seasonal decline from higher Q4 health benefit costs, offset by typical wage and cost growth—but they also emphasized the key upside:
When discussing “labor,” DaVita stated that Q1 was ahead of plan, primarily from better productivity, which we expect to sustain over the balance of the year. 3
Bottom line on labor efficiency: The guidance increase is consistent with a labor story of productivity-driven outperformance in Q1 and expectation that those productivity gains continue, lowering patient care costs per treatment relative to earlier expectations. 23 This aligns with management’s stated view that labor efficiencies are the second factor behind the 2026 guidance increase. 1

Wells Fargo expects fourth-quarter 2026 net interest income of about $13 billion, supported by loan and deposit growth, asset repricing, higher securities balances, and rates. The full-year outlook remains $50 billion, plus or minus. Management did not disclose a numerical Q4 markets/non-markets split; its roughly $1.8 billion markets estimate applies to the full year, not the quarter.

Cintas raised its FY2027 incremental-margin outlook to 32%–34% and expects results in the range’s upper half, while cautioning that quarterly progress will be uneven. Workday comparisons, a demanding Q4 comparison, energy assumptions, and cost controls are key factors shaping the outlook; guidance also excludes UniFirst-related transaction costs and assumes no further acquisitions.

AutoZone outlines a store-maturation-driven ROIC story, highlighting zero ROIC in the first year and a path to above 20% by year six, with ~15% by year four. The majority of near-term ROIC gains come from UDS customers through faster delivery and expanded inventory, while national accounts offer longer-term upside but without separate ROIC targets disclosed.

Management attributes the near-term gross-margin pressure to a rapid ramp in custom products, noting that mix is the primary driver of the Q3 margin decline and that the forecast assumes continued custom growth. They expect the broader Data Center mix—anchored by connectivity and other segments—to stabilize margins in Q4, with margins remaining in the existing range into fiscal 2028 despite ongoing custom expansion.

Walmart explains that price investments are likely to lift traffic in 2H with lagged effects, while ticket dynamics face deflation and regulatory headwinds; OpEx growth of about 7% is mainly driven by depreciation from CapEx and higher self-insurance costs, with timing shifts supporting the back half.

Marmaxx faced execution-related underperformance due to merchandise-mix gaps in stores, particularly for impulse and basic categories, not due to competition. TJX reports cross-functional fixes and systematic planning to prevent recurrence, with early improvements in August and a targeted return to a 2%-3% comp cadence by Q4 as the holiday season nears.

Carvana frames its rest-of-2026 EBITDA guidance as midyear guardrails, reinforcing a disciplined, historical approach rather than signaling a fundamental pivot. Quanta Services outlines a pathway to higher long-term margins anchored in a greater self-perform mix and larger load-center/generation projects, underpinned by a training-driven expansion of the workforce and a reinforcing backlog buildup.
