What is the expected impact of the Exact Sciences acquisition on Abbott's profit forecast for 2026?
Abbott’s management explicitly quantified how the Exact Sciences acquisition affects its 2026 adjusted earnings per share (EPS) guidance, which is the closest filed/provided proxy in the excerpt for the “profit forecast.”
Implication: On Abbott’s own forecast metric (adjusted EPS), the acquisition is expected to be slightly accretive/neutral on an earnings basis only after financing/other effects are considered, but the stated near-term impact is dilution of $0.20 at the forecast midpoint. 1
Implication for “profit forecast”: The comparable-sales adjustment is primarily a growth-reporting and modeling normalization, but it frames why Abbott is able to update guidance while explicitly separating the acquisition’s dilution effect (profit impact) from the sales-growth comparability effect. 1
While the excerpt does not provide a full 2026 segment-by-segment profit bridge, it does provide context that Abbott expects Exact Sciences to contribute to earnings power via sales expansion:
Implication: Even though the acquisition creates near-term adjusted EPS dilution of $0.20 at the midpoint, Abbott is concurrently forecasting material incremental 2026 revenue (about $3B) from Exact Sciences, supporting the notion that the longer-run earnings impact should be more favorable than the initial dilution suggests. 123
Abbott’s 2026 profit forecast (as represented by adjusted EPS) is expected to be lower at the midpoint by $0.20 due to dilution from the Exact Sciences acquisition, moving the midpoint from $5.68 to $5.48. 1
At the same time, Abbott forecasts Exact Sciences will contribute about $3 billion of incremental 2026 sales and supports that the business is integrating well, which is intended to bolster longer-term earnings capacity even as the forecast reflects upfront dilution. 23

Abbott outlines a reimbursement-driven rest-of-year outlook for Libre CGM, suggesting US Type 2 non-insulin coverage could unlock growth in the fall and likely accelerate sales when it arrives. The dual-key glucose sensor is in late-stage discussions, but timing remains uncertain. Absent reimbursement expansion, growth may plateau around 8-9% until catalyst arrives, making timing critical for near-term acceleration.

Morgan Stanley described its nearly $30 billion sequential deposit increase as a deliberate investment in long-term funding capacity and client relationships, not a push to maximize near-term net interest income.
